J&CO Architects is a Surbiton-based architecture studio working across London and the South East.
At J&CO we bring considered judgement to every project, whether it be a home extension, sensitive retrofit, listed building or purposeful new build. Our expertise spans the full process, from initial conversation through to project handover, ensuring our work respects a site's history while unlocking its future value. Every project is thoughtfully crafted and built responsibly, with natural materials, low-impact thinking, and a commitment to longevity over convenience.
Director (RIBA)
Passionate about design and its delivery through construction, John strives to provide value throughout the lifecycle of a project, beginning with the first idea to resolving challenging problems on site. Always asking questions, this desire to understand and learn underpins a sense of purpose across every project.
With experience as an Architect and Main Contractor, he’s worked on complex residential refurbishments, repurposing of large commercial buildings, and mixed-use new-build projects across London. Understanding the challenges, complexities, and competing interests that exists when developing a scheme helps John to steer projects in the right direction from the outset.
John has over 15 years experience leading large project teams from concept to completion. Completing his training at Paul Davis + Partners (now Studio PDP), he honed his skill and understanding of retrofit and refurbishment, working on high-end and high-profile residential refurbishments in Covent Garden, repurposing and transforming heritage buildings. More recently, working for Morrow + Lorraine on primarily large commercial buildings has broadened his sector experience at a time when the workplace is undergoing huge changes.
